NZ LOTTERIES SHORTLISTS FOUR

NZ Lotteries has shortlisted four agencies to proceed to the second round of its advertising review process, says Wendy Rayner, NZ Lotteries’ Head of Marketing: Colenso BBDO, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi and incumbent, Lowe.
The NZ Lotteries’ advertising account is one of the country’s largest and includes products such as Lotto, Instant Kiwi and Big Wednesday.

Excuse me, but what exactly is the problem with the Lowe work? Another hugely expensive and unnecessary pitch.

I like the latest instant kiwi ad. Basically because it says a big 'fuck you' to strategy, common sense and the client and goes into mad, crazy, mentalist territory which 99.8% of New Zealand wouldn't understand. Gotta admire that 80's mentality. Obviously Lotto doesn't agree, but hey - who fuckin cares right? Right?

Sales of Instant Kiwi are through the roof. In fact the week before xmas 2005 sales of IK tickets were around 600k. The week before xmas this year just gone 1.6m. You'll also find our other major client Vodafone's Bestmate campaign is smoking with 16% of the total population of this country signed up. It's truly amazing where no strategy and no common sense can get you.

I think by 'common sense' and 'strategy', 7.24 means 'not doing anything the ad community won't like'

Anyhow I think Instant Kiwi sell themselves really.

Five bucks on Instant Kiwi staying at Lowe and the rest going to DDB.

I'm not sure anyone would be moving their work to DDB at the moment.

I'm not taking that bet. I'd have better odds of winning with a scratchy.

Since McCanns closed up shop, Lintas...er... Lowe... has inherited the title of sick man of NZ advertising.

After they're gone, who will get the title?

Blackwood King? I'm not sure if they count actually. FCB still seems a little too strong to be Interpublic's next retreat from the edges of Empire.

But give it time. In a declining market, more casualties are inevitable.
