FCB eats McCanns

Just in from Ed at Fastline:

McCann WorldGroup NZ is to be folded into FCB. (Both belong to the Interpublic Group.)

McCann MD Glenda Wynyard will not to be making the transition, and will leave to form her own media independent (with substantial backing).

Executives at both agencies could not be contacted today, including Wynyard, her recently appointed GM John McCarthy, FCB CD James Mok (who’s been handling media inquiries while the agency seeks a new MD), and FCB GM Brian van den Hurk.

Mok, however, flatly denied the rumour when Fastline put it to him on Monday.

FCB will cherrypick the clients and staff it wants, who will move into the FCB building in Parnell. There will be redundancies.

This is no longer just a rumour. Fastline’s pieced together the story from a number of confidential sources.

More as it emerges.

Yeah, we knew that.

I wonder if the McCanned Xmas party is still on?

I heard the theme was 'Bird Flu'.

Well well well, look what happens when lawyers and accountants run an agency network, and never ever think about the work. Perhaps this is the beginning of the end for McC's and IPG. McC's has always been the bane of good advertising. I feel sorry for the people running it here, being laid off before xmas is a bad ad for advertising.

Saying all that though, who else has put calls into their clients?

This is probably not true. I heard from an extremely reliable source (nzcreativecircle.blogspot.com) this morning that Lion were seen lunching with Mojo. They were laughing and smiling. Unconfirmed reports say they were probably eating too.

I think the real question is how are they going to fit everyone into the Parnel office? It's already squeezier than Dirk Diggler's jockstrap.

Fuck you all, people with kids and mortgages have lost their jobs. All in the name of cost cutting. Glenda is a great person and a fantastic leader.
You don't want the clients, there is a reason they were losing money.

Pay attention meathead they're not going to Parnell.

Bird Flu ha ha ha that's so funny you should be in advertising, what a bunch of cunts you all are.

The bane of good advertising??? Maybe thirty years ago. Pick up an annual.

Mccann was the first agency in NZ, the first multinational, the first to air a T.V spot. It's a sad thing really. Alot of talented people have come through Mccann over the years.

The saddest thing is Fastline told everyone before the staff were told. That's a bit cold.
