A writer, writes....

“Too many copywriters are crappy writers. The Copy School is a great way to dial up the importance of good writing in advertising early in people’s careers. Don’t even think about not being able to write. As long as people read, advertising will need people who can write; and write well; in many different voices. The Fairfax AWARD Copy School gives me some confidence there will be such people in the future.”

Is that the same Paul Fishlock that somehow got included in D&AD's 'The Copy Book'? I refer to it often.

But of the master copywriters featured (mainly British and American all-time best), Fishlock stands out as being totally out of his class. There are two great Australian copywriters featured in the book: Lionel Hunt and John Bevins. I remember thinking at the time that the third spot should have gone to another master, Jack Vaughan.

It was only later I discovered that Fishlock was the D&AD contact for recommending the three all-time best copywriters from Australia.

What a tragedy.

Sounds like we better roll out the old 80's craft style guys who perfected the tongue-in-cheek style of copy.

No-one reads copy.

This should be rename it to: 'How to write copy so you can end up in a DM Agency' School

Or you need to write a letter. Or a whole website because you don't trust the people who design it to do it to standard.

Or you need to write a script for a movie instead of just a 30 second spot.

If you really don't think you need to know how to write, I encourage you to stay in advertising for the next ten years. I bet you don't last.
